David J. Jacofsky, M.D. – Innovation Committee Chairman and Chief Clinical Officer
Dr. David J. Jacofsky, M.D. is an international speaker and respected authority in complex adult joint reconstruction, total joint replacement, traumatology and oncology. He is committed to delivering the finest patient care possible, community service, research and education. Dr. Jacofsky continues his career as the Chairman of The CORE Institute after a successful tenure as a Division Director and Assistant Residency Director at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. His career landmarks include graduating valedictorian of his high school class, highest honors at Lehigh University, valedictorian and magna cum laude at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, orthopedic surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and finally a fellowship in orthopedic oncology and complex adult reconstruction from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. During his medical education he received numerous awards including the 2001 Mayo Scholar award. Dr. Jacofsky is extensively involved with academic medicine. To date, he has 39 peer reviewed publications, 19 book chapters and 1 orthopedic textbook to his credit. He routinely lectures at local, regional, national and international events. He is board certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
Steven M. Scott, M.D., M.B.A. – Chair of Bacterin’s Orthopedic Scientific Advisory Board
Dr. Steven Scott is chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and the Pediatric Society Orthopaedic of North America. Dr. Scott maintains an active orthopaedic practice in Salt Lake City and has special expertise in the use of Ilizarov external fixation, pediatric orthopaedics, bone graft technology, and orthopedic oncology, and currently serves as Medical Director for Intermountain Sarcoma and Limb Preservation Center in Salt Lake City, UT. Dr. Scott has authored many scientific publications, has presented at numerous national conferences, and has a patent pending. He received his BA from Linfield College summa cum laude and attended medical school at the University of Colorado. He completed his orthopaedic training at the University of Utah and Mayo Clinic; he holds a clinical appointment within the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Utah and received an M.B.A. through the University of Utah in 2001.
Gerard J Girasole, MD – Chair, Bacterin’s Spine/Neuro Surgeon Advisory Board
Gerard J. Girasole, MD is a fellowship-trained, board-certified spine surgeon. He has extensive experience dealing with the surgical treatment of cervical and lumbar disorders of the spine. Dr. Girasole is very active with the development of new technology used for minimally invasive spinal procedures and is also involved in clinical trials for the treatment of spinal disorders. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY. He completed his surgical internship at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital in New York City and an orthopaedic residency program at the Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn & Queens, an affiliate of Cornell Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Girasole did his spinal fellowship at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, Orthopaedic Institute, also in New York City. Dr. Girasole is an active member in many professional societies including: The Academy for Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Medical Association, Fairfield County Medical Association and the North American Spine Society. Dr. Girasole teaches several accredited spine courses and presents at scientific meetings worldwide. He has written chapters on spondylolisthesis and has published several papers that pertain to the treatment of spine disorders.
Ali Araghi, DO – Chair of Bacterin’s Spine Research Board
Ali Araghi, DO is a board certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon with more than 13 years of clinical experience. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery, arthroplasty to include artificial disc replacement, and cervical and lumbar spine surgery. Dr. Araghi completed his fellowship program in orthopedic spine surgery at the Texas Back Institute and received an additional fellowship in advanced spine training at Professor Jurgen Harms in Germany. Prior to that, he completed his orthopedic residency at Peninsula Hospital Center in New York and his pediatric orthopedic surgery rotations at Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Kentucky. Currently, Dr. Araghi is the Deputy Editor for the Spine Arthroplasty Journal, the Associate Editor for the Spine Journal, resides on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Spine Surgery, and was on the Editorial Board and the President of the Spine Section of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics. Dr. Araghi presents lectures around the world and has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters in his field.
Wayne Gersoff, MD – Chair of Bacterin’s Sports Medicine Surgeon Advisory Board
Dr. Wayne Gersoff received a bachelor's degree from Yale University, his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York and then returned to Yale University for his residency in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Gersoff completed a year of fellowship for specialized training in orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Wisconsin. Upon completion of his fellowship in 1987, Dr. Gersoff was recruited to the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center to develop and direct a program in sports medicine, as well as be team physician for the University of Colorado athletic teams before going into Private Practice. Dr. Gersoff has served as team physician for the Colorado Rockies baseball team, the Denver Grizzlies hockey team, the U.S. Ski Jumping team, and the Denver Public Schools. He presently serves as team physician for the Colorado Rapids professional soccer team and is a member of the physician pool for the U.S. Soccer teams and a medical advisor to the Colorado High School Sports Activities Association. Dr. Gersoff is actively involved in the care of both lower and upper extremity injuries in athletes. He has been actively involved in complex knee ligament reconstruction, shoulder reconstruction, and complex knee surgery involving articular cartilage restoration and meniscal cartilage transplantation. He has lectured and taught extensively on these topics around the world since 1998. He is considered one of the international leaders of combined procedures in cartilage defects and meniscal articular cartilage deficiencies. In addition to being board certified in orthopedic surgery, he is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Academy of Orthopedic Sports Medicine.
Steve Moran, MD – Chair of Bacterin’s Plastic Surgery Advisory Board
Dr. Steve Moran’s clinical practice is primarily hand and microsurgery, with specific interest in disorders of the wrist, congenital malformations, and soft tissue reconstruction of the upper and lower extremities. His research interest is on wound and tendon healing with a specific focus on cytokines and growth factors as well as wrist biomechanics following injury. He is Chairman of the Division of Plastic Surgery, Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. He also serves as Professor of Plastic Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery, Mayo Medical School, Consultant, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Consultant, Hand and Microvascular Surgery, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Mayo Clinic Rochester, Director Mayo Clinic Composite Transplant Program, Co-Director Mayo Clinic Microvascular Skills Lab and Staff Surgeon, Shriners Hospital for Sick Children, St Paul, MN. Dr Moran routinely lectures at national and international conferences and has over 150 publications, abstracts and book chapters to his credit.
Randolf C. Robinson, MD, DDS – Chair, Bacterin’s CMF/Plastic Surgery Surgeon Advisory Board
Randolph (Randy) C. Robinson, MD, DDS, is a cranio-maxillo-facial surgeon who is double board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. He and his partners maintain a private surgical practice in Denver, CO. Dr. Robinson obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1980. Consistent with a trend for facial surgeons in the United States and Europe, he then obtained both a Dental Degree (1984) and a Medical Degree (1989) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Next, he completed eight years of surgical training, ultimately including two years of general surgery. Lastly, he completed a one-year fellowship in craniofacial and facial plastic surgery. Dr. Robinson continues academic pursuits. He lectures around the world, holds patents on bone-lengthening devices and travel routinely in the US and abroad for humanitarian missions providing free facial surgeries for needy people with deformities.
Harold Schoenhaus, D.P.M. – Co-Chair of Bacterin’s Foot and Ankle Surgeon Advisory Board
Dr. Schoenhaus is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and American board of Podiatric Orthopedics and has been in private practice for 41 years. He is a Professor at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine attending staff at Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center, Temple Hospital and Chestnut Hill Hospital. He is Past Chairman of the Department of Foot and Ankle Surgery at Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia and Past President of The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is well known as an educator, inventor and lecturer. He is actively involved in research and written numerous publications. He is Surgical Editor Present E Learning systems.
Stephen A. Brigido, D.P.M. – Co-Chair of Bacterin’s Foot and Ankle Surgeon Advisory Board
A fellow, American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, Dr. Brigido is a graduate of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. and received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is board certified in both foot surgery and rearfoot/ankle surgery. Dr. Brigido has a focus in adult reconstruction of the foot and ankle, ankle arthritis, and ankle replacement surgery. Dr. Brigido is active in teaching and research. He has presented at numerous national and international foot and ankle courses. His research interests include acellular regenerative tissue scaffolds and foot and ankle reconstruction.
